Microscopy enthusiasts from around the world came to Edinburgh last month for the 5th ESRIC international super-resolution summer school. Scientists from as far as Canada and Australia came prepared to learn from the masters of super-resolution - our exceptional faculty and industry partners.

We were once again delighted to welcome an outstanding group of experts from across the globe to teach the theory and application of techniques such as STED, SIM, STORM, PALM and learn about the importance of sample preparation, development of new dyes in the field and understand the ways in which to analyse super-resolution data. As always the course included time to discuss techniques and research projects with our faculty over wine and canapés and underneath the beautiful Edinburgh Dome.

Our industry partners, Leica Microsystems, Nikon, Zeiss, Oxford Nanoimaging, Andor, Olympus and Hamamatsu as well as our academics, Colin Rickman and Ricardo Henriques, provided the opportunity for delegates to reinforce the theory learnt and see the state-of-the-art systems in action.

Class of 2018Image: The Summer School social with delegates, industry partners and ESRIC committee members was a great chance to reflect on the course and enjoy a well earned drink in the heart of Edinburgh's city centre.

The summer school is aimed at researchers using or hoping to use super-resolution in the future with a solid understanding of fluorescence microscopy and covers all of the available super-resolution imaging systems including single molecule localisation, stimulated emission depletion and structured illumination microscopies, as well as applications, sample preparation and image analysis. The course is organised by the RMS and sponsored by the BBSRC and our industry partners.

The 6th ESRIC Super-Resolution Summer School will run from July 14th - July 19th 2019, registration will open in December 2018 and you can register interest here by contacting us here.

Thank you to our industry partners and funders for their generous sponsorship and support!
