Since being established in 2013 ESRIC has run a number of different workshops for researchers to showcase new systems, demonstrate capabilities of our ESRIC systems and educate on analysis tools.

In the winter of 2019 ESRIC ran its very first Super-Resolution Clinic, which aimed to give local researchers a chance to test out their samples on the systems and hear more about super-resolution from the technical experts and experienced users. On the day we welcomed Leica and ONI specialists to provide the practical demonstrations but also give a short seminar on their techniques, which formed part of our Networking Lunch and Seminar session. In this we also heard from two of ESRIC’s long-term users who have worked with us for over 5 years now and have used the systems and ESRIC’s expertise to publish great work and move on to exciting new posts. Dr Matthew Broadhead (St. Andrews) and Dr Charlotte Buckely (Strathclyde) gave exciting and inspiring talks on their research and how they have used advanced microscopy in their careers. It was wonderful to see researchers come from all over Scotland to this event, all with the same interest in super-resolution microscopy.

After the interest in the day and success of the seminar we hope to run a similar event next year. Thank you again to our sponsors and industry partners

In August 2015 ESRIC was very honoured to welcome Eric Betzig, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2014 for his outstanding work on the development of super-resolution techniques alongside Stefan Hell and William Moerner. Dr Betzig taught our summer school delegates on his visit and also gave the ESRIC Summer Lecture to a full house at the Royal College of Physician's in Edinburgh. This event was open to the general public and was booked out within 24 hours of registration opening, Dr Betzig gave an insightful and entertaining lecture to researchers and the general public alike. More information about this can be found at on our News page.

As well as the workshops shown below we also run an active outreach program, working with schools and the education centres across Scotland, as well as hosting visits from groups across Europe. The next collaboration ESRIC is working on will be with The Glasgow Science Centre - so watch this space! All of our outreach events can be found in the News page.

In addition to workshops ESRIC facility managers often present at neighbouring institutes to showcase what the ESRIC systems can offer and provide advice to any new users. If you would find a visit useful or would like to contact us about our workshops please get in touch.
